COMMS

Communications (COMMS) is a program devised for Middle and High School students that strengthens their writing and communications skills to prepare them for their futures. This program offers students the opportunity to gain experience in formal and informal speaking, from pitches to speeches on topics that are motivating and inspirational. The COMMS program also offers other specialized courses such as Business Communication and Sports Communication for those seeking a career in these respective fields.

Educational Support Services

Educational Support Services help students succeed academically, improve their mental health, and develop personally. Educational Support Services provide students with extra assistance and guidance whenever they encounter challenges in their studies. Knowing there is a support network can boost a student's confidence, motivation, self-esteem, and resilience. Educational Support Services enhance a student's learning experience making it less stressful and enjoyable which contributes to better retention.

Hero's Journey

The Hero's Journey is an SEL program designed for Elementary and Middle School students, grades 6 and 7, to promote growth and passage. The Hero's Journey involves a hero, themselves, who goes on an adventure, is victorious in a decisive crisis, and comes home transformed. The journey requires each student, in an individual and group setting, to acknowledge the adversities in their familiar world and leads them to a new level of self-awareness and responsibility.

Mentoring & Leadership Services

The Lighthouse MHS Mentoring and Leadership Services provide individual and group mentoring services to each of our participants. Mentors support our youth by providing guidance, advice, and emotional support to help our youth navigate life's challenges. Building these relationships with our youth improves academic achievements and builds stronger relationships with their family, peers, and community. Mentoring enhances self-esteem and self-confidence which leads to better problem-solving abilities and stronger leadership skills. Mentors motivate our youth by setting goals and tracking their progress.

NYSBA Mock Trial: NYC High School Competition

High School students work on Teams of 8 or more to participate in a citywide Mock Trial Competition. Students compete at least twice in a multiple-elimination round tournament. Competitions are facilitated in all five boroughs from February through May. Top teams will go on to compete in the State Finals in Albany.

PSA

Public Service Announcements (PSA) is an SEL program designed for Middle School students, grade 8 through High School. PSA's are short presentations that provide information to the public. PSA's are reflective declarations that aim to educate the public, raise awareness about issues, addresses social concerns, and inspires behavioral change. Students participating in PSA engage in individual and group counseling. Where they will conduct research about a social issue concerning adolescents and facilitate a presentation to students within a school.

Middle School Law Academy

The Middle School Law Academy, MSLA, benefits Middle School students by helping them develop critical thinking skills, learn about the Federal Court System, and engage and gain experience in law-related activities.

The Middle School Law Academy helps students develop critical thinking skills. This will assist students in evaluating research, make connections, and draw logical conclusions.

MSLA teaches students legal reasoning skills, which helps them to consider multiple perspectives to a topic.

MSLA also introduces students to the Federal Court Sytem and offers students the opportunities to visit courts, law firms, and particvipate in various law-related competitions.

The Constitution Works (TCW)

The Constitution Works is a law and civics program that challenges students, grades 5-12, to think critically and analytically about legal and constitutional issues involving the First Amendment. Students are introduced to relevant constitutional issues to determine the outcome. Students will participate and prepare for their Mock Supreme Court Hearing that focus on one of the first three Articles of the U.S. Constitution, the structure of the Federal Court System, and cornerstone First Amendment U.S. Supreme Court cases.

Transforming STEAM Education in Schools

Program Overview: "STEP UP in Robotics" is an innovative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program designed to inspire and engage students across all grade levels in schools and districts (statewide). Our program is built on the foundational belief that every student can excel when given the right tools, guidance, and opportunities. By integrating literacy strategies, differentiation based on learning styles, and collaborative learning techniques, we create an inclusive and dynamic environment where students can thrive.

STEP UP stands for See, Touch, Engage, Participate, Understand, and Pioneer—a comprehensive approach that ensures students not only learn but also internalize and apply STEAM concepts through hands-on experiences in robotics. Each aspect of the acronym reflects our commitment to fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in the classroom.
